Giving Back

Please join us in supporting at-risk children, a struggling community and military families who give so much to our country. These are some past events through which we’ve help children and families in need:

Build-a-Bot Robotics Event

9.23.23

Spirit Gives held its second annual Build-a-Bot Robotics event in September and it was a great success. We had some new families joining us, which is always great. We are constantly working to get our Spirit Gives info out to families in our community.

Our team of techno savvy “Robot Masters” Rory, Donnie and Josh researched and choose the perfect DIY robot kits for our youth.  Then our Rockstar Volunteers did a stellar job working with the youth to build, decorate and race the robots. This activity was a great experience exposing youth to STEM principles, autonomous and teamwork, thinking outside the box and developing mechanical and critical thinking skills….and the most important…FUN!!!

All the kids did a fantastic job.  We have future techs, engineers, scientists, leaders, and maybe even Spirit Electronic employees in our group!!

BIG THANKS to our Wonderful Volunteers: Donnie, Josh, Rory and Tiffany, Marti, Sean, Megan and Scott.

Spirit Gives could not provide activities and service to our deserving families without our wonderful and caring volunteers.  They are the backbone of Spirit Gives and all we do.

Pangaea Dinosaur Excursion

Saturday 8.19.23

We explored the amazing dinosaur exhibits at Pangaea, Land of the Dinosaur, and then had lunch. The kids were all smiles, and they got even bigger when they got a dino to take home!

The dinosaurs were donated by Latham Industries.  Tracey always goes above and beyond with all she does!  Thanks Tracey and Latham Industries for supporting Spirit Gives!

Spirit Gives Wildlife World Zoo Excursion

Saturday 3.25.23

We met at Sunnyslope Youth Center and were transported to the Wildlife World Zoo by school bus.  The Zoo is huge, with an Aquarium, Zoo, Safari Park, Adventureland and lots more, so we had a lot of exploring to do!

We stayed together as a group and first thing we did was ride the zoo train through a large wildlife exhibit.  We were up-close with Ostriches, Emus, Deer, Antelope, Oryx, Cranes and Waterbucks. No food allowed on the train because the animals will reach into the train and take it, even if it’s in a backpack!

Next was a stop at the Petting Zoo, where everyone got to meet and feed small mammals, Deer, Chickens, Goats and more. Lots of fun but watch out for those Goats, they are hungry, and they are a bit cray-cray when it comes to food!

We then explored the Aquarium’s four buildings with exhibits from fish like Dory to Turtles to Sea Lions to Sharks and Alligators. Petting and feeding the Stingrays was one of our very favorite experiences!! They were very friendly and hungry!

We then had lunch together on the patio by the Flamingo Pond.  It was an incredibly beautiful day and we enjoyed good food, visiting with each other, discussing our day and where we wanted to go next.

After lunch we broke up into families/teams to explore the rest of the zoo.  Most everyone headed over to the Giraffe exhibit.  We all got to feed the Giraffes, who reach out with their super long tongues to get the food. They were another favorite, so cute and friendly too!

Everyone then walked around to visit their favorite animals. Lions, Jaguars, Hippos, Llamas, Bison and way too many to list here.  There was even an Animal Nursery where we got to see baby Capybaras and Foxes.

We got back on the bus and headed home.  Everyone agreed we had an amazing adventure, we loved feeding the animals, learning about the animals was awesome and we made lots of new friends!

We’re looking forward to our next Spirit Gives Events, to have fun, enjoy time together, have more exciting adventures and support our goal of Everyone Deserves a Great Childhood!

Sunnyslope Ugly Sweater Party – Dec 2022

We had a great time at the Sunnyslope Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest and Christmas Party. There were about 350 families/kids in attendance. Each child got to visit with Santa and select a gift from Santa’s workshop! There were arts & crafts, bounce houses, playground activities and resource tables with giveaways. Spirit Gives met with lots of families from the community, shared our info and gave out peppermint tootsie pops, red & green lollipops and red & green gummies, which the kids loved!

Trunk or Treat – Oct 2022

Who doesn’t love a chance to put on a costume and eat candy?! We had a blast at the Sunnylope Youth Center Trunk or Treat event. We gave out lots of treats, no tricks, and we all had a great time! Thanks to all who came out to support us and join in the fun.

Picnic & Play – September 2022

We partnered with Amalyn to provide a  fun-filled day for children in our community with a picnic and lots of activities at Encanto Park Enchanted Island.

Back-to-School – July 2022

Spirit Gives participated in the Back-to-School Event hosted by City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, at the Sunnyslope Youth Center on July 16. About 200 youth from the local community received backpacks with school supplies at the event. There were also several tables with community resources, free haircuts, lots of music and dancing!

Our volunteers greeted and talked with families at the Spirit Gives table, where we also gave out coloring books, games, books, slime, pencils, Frisbees, pinwheel and because it was 1000 degrees outside, we gave out otter pops too! Lots of families signed up to get our Spirit Gives email and activity calendar.

BIG Thank You to Our Super Star Volunteers ❤️: Marti McCurdy, Megan Downie, Heather Jackson, Nicolette Shiflett, Patty Hannon, April Burt, and Tracey Latham.

Earth Day – April 2022

We had a wonderful time at the Sunnyslope Community Center Earth Day celebration on April 23rd! Spirit Gives had a booth where kids could make bird houses. They were so creative and fun!! We enjoyed connecting with families and getting the word out about how our foundation can help them. Thank you to all who were there, especially the Spirit Electronics employees who came to support us!!

Christmas Party

Spirit Gives participated in the Sunnyslope Youth Christmas Party held Saturday, 12/11/21 and sponsored by the Sunnyslope Community Center and the Sunnyslope Youth Center.

The event sponsors invited families in the community to attend. Santa arrived at the event in a police cruiser with sirens and lights flashing. Each child got to visit with Santa, walk through Santa’s Workshop and pick a gift of their choosing. There were tables hosted by community resource agencies. The agencies gave out treats such as candy, buttons, bubbles, pencils, socks and various other goodies. Agencies also gave out info on their programs and offerings.

There were activities such as arts and crafts, dodge ball, bike obstacle course, corn hole and more. The police brought in an ice cream truck and gave away free treats to all the youth.  Some brand new bright and shiny bikes were given away to several deserving attendees.  Bike helmets were given away to any child needing one.

The event was fun for all and a great way to start the holiday season!

The photos below include Santa’s Workshop/Gift Giveaway, our Spirit Gives resource table, other resource tables, the bike obstacle course, and Santa, of course!

We committed to providing back-to-school supplies to more than 30 children in more than 20 families! Thank you for your help that gave these students a great start to the school year with new backpacks and supplies to fill them!

We worked with UMOM New Day Centers and caseworkers for our Gold Star Families to make sure that the children have all they need for school. The children were aged 5 to 18 years old.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity!

Easter Basket Drive 2021

Build a Basket - Be a Blessing

With just a little love, you can make a BIG difference.

The Easter Bunnies at Spirit Electronics helped assemble the many baskets that were delivered to our Gold Star families, UMOM New Day Centers Veteran Support Team and Veterans at US Vets-Grand Village. Thank you for making a positive difference in our community, and letting these families know that they are not alone.

Thank you to all those who donated to our Sock Drive!

501 pairs of socks were donated, and Spirit Electronics matched that number to make it 1002 pairs of socks that are going to Veteran support organizations, in addition to monetary donations. Thank you for helping us to warm both feet and hearts for those in need!

Thank you to all those who donated to our Holiday Drive for Gold Star Families!

Holiday Drive for Gold Star Families

Spirit Gives Foundation’s first campaign to support military families is through Arizona Survivor Outreach Services, a wonderful organization that assists families who have suffered the loss of a loved one in military service. We have signed up to provide Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts and supplies for five of their families. We will need your participation to make this a successful drive and show these families that they have our support, appreciation and love. Details will be added here as we have them.
